Institutes of Eminence need a fair-checks.
Central government had
announced to make 10 public and 10 private institution of global
standards in 2016 budget . Only 6 universities have been chosen as
'Institute of Eminence'(IEO) in two years . It seems that IOE is
needed to see different perspectives .
After the
prime-ministerial announcement , 114 institutions had applied under
the said policy . Since select committee has not made the selection
criteria public . On this basis , it can be said that the selection
process has been done in biased and one-sided manner .
Any university gets years
to be well-established . So , government should have given the
permission to apply to only to well-establish university . Despite it
, government did a mistake by giving the same opportunity to newly
formed university .
Select committee ought to
have followed the criteria of the ranking which is being followed by
global ranking agency . This process give more importance to research
. Along with this , it needs to keep international view of teachers
, students and syllabus . Every subjects should have given equal
weight-age in selection process . But selected institutions shows
that the same has not been done . By selecting science and
engineering institutions , subjects like humanities and social
science have been ignored completely .
China had selected and
made effort to evolve by selecting institutes related to research .
So those institution has gained global standards . Only 300
universities have made their places in Q S Ranking out of 9000
higher education institutions . And out of these 300 , only 79 has
been selected . Unfortunately Indian Select Committee has not chosen
ant of these 79 institutions .
About 140 M Indian youth
are going to enter in higher education in the coming decade . Only 3
institutions have been placed in top 250 universities in Q S Ranking
2018 . Indian government should learn from International Ranking
Agency , and make a pace in selecting more than 6 institutes .
